\n\t\n\t\tELECTROSPECTIVE: Would you believe that last night was the first time I have ever seen John Scofield<\/a> live? I\u2019ve probably listened to his 80s fusion and 00\u2019s groove-period records as much as anything in my collection. So when I heard he was doing an \u201cElectrospection\u201d tour, and the band was Sco + Oteil Burbridge<\/a> + Adam Deitch<\/a> + Larry Goldings, and they were focusing on this material, and I was actually going to be in town, I couldn\u2019t miss it. I\u2019m pretty sure this was the set list though I my be missing one song:A Go Go (A Go Go)I Get The Picture (no album?)\/Techno (Still Warm)Thikhathali (Up All Night)Boogie Stupid (Uberjam Deux)Still Warm (Still Warm)Chank (A Go Go)Best Western (Electric Outlet)Trim (Blue Matter)ENCORE: Jeep On 35 (A Go Go)I was there with Andrew Synowiec. Both of us were giddy, deep in our music school feels the whole time. Oteil is otherworldly - I feel like he doesn\u2019t get enough recognition for being one of the best bassists on earth today. Larry is just so authentic on a real Hammond and a real Rhodes, and fits Sco like a glove. And watching Adam live doing the thing I\u2019d heard on those records for 20+ years\u2026amazing. I feel like everything that could possibly be said about John Scofield<\/a> has already been said, but I have to say it anyway. It\u2019s like an effortless, inviting genius. I read once that his secret sauce is that he makes the \u201cout\u201d stuff as accessible as the blues, and he makes the blues as interesting as the \u201cout\u201d stuff. I always liked that line, because it\u2019s true. There was a point where everything I was writing kind of sounded like the John Scofield<\/a> funk\/fusion band. Since then, compositionally at least, I\u2019ve returned home to my progressive roots. But I still put these albums on with alarming regularity.A personal thing: The very first song in the set list of my very first show I put on at Berklee College Of Music was John Scofield<\/a>\u2019s \u201cTechno\u201d. 35 years later, I finally saw him play it live. \n\t\n\t\tGRATITUDE FOR THE KENEALLY FAITHFUL: A Very Special Mike Keneally<\/a> September run of shows (and studio sessions!) with the OG lineup of MK, Joe Travers (dr), Rick Musallam (gtr) and your humble narrator (with Travis Larson<\/a> supporting) is now complete. It was an absolute blast, as always, but it\u2019s more than that. Because while I\u2019ve had a wild career with plenty of highs and lows and everything in between, one thing has remained constant: this exquisitely unique music, the man who created it, and the base of loyal fans who have been supporting it for over **thirty years** now. This month I saw faces I\u2019ve seen so many times over the decades of playing Mike\u2019s music. It\u2019s difficult to grasp how long this journey has been sometimes. But when we\u2019re in a room together, and we\u2019re all bouncing to a groove, or taking in an esoteric passage, or just having a wild improvisational moment, and I feel the combined energy\u2026it\u2019s a reminder of how deep the roots go. So I wanted to take a moment to say THANK YOU to everyone who came out to these shows, and especially the hardest of the hardcore fans who have been with us for all this time. It\u2019s a special bond and I treasure it. Now it\u2019s time to bear down on the solo album once again - something that quite a few of the Keneally show attendees asked me about.
